Grand Cayman May 2002 In
May 2002 Robin and Nick flew out to Washington DC and spent about four
days at Deb and Ed's house. We spent one day sight seeing in
Washington DC. We all flew down to the Caymans on a Wednesday.
Two of Ed's friends joined us there, Eric and Patrick. We all had a
great time and flew home on the following Tuesday.
We
went to see the Lincoln Memorial.
Before
we left for the Caymans we spent a day taking care of Abbey. I love
the look on her face here.
It
was our first day in the Caymans and Abbey was already borrowing my hat.
On
our first full day the men went scuba diving. They took a quick
lesson in the morning and dove in the afternoon.
Nick
looks like a natural.
We
all rented scooters to get around the island one day. Deb stayed
back with Abbey. She was very concerned about making sure we all
wore helmets.
So, look Deb, everyone's wearing helmets.
We've
been to hell and back. The town of Hell in the Caymans, that is.
Who
makes a better devil?
Ed
or Nick?
All
the guys rented jet skis for an hour.
Nick
had a great time on the jet ski. But he had a close call and almost
collided with Eric.
Eric
and Patrick had to wait for their jet skis to be ready.
We
found a great local pizzeria near the hotel. Delicious!
Nick
helped Robin learn how to snorkel. She took this in the pool while
we were practicing.
Here's
Abbey when she was hanging out with us in our room.
This
is on the boat on our way to stingray city.
Everyone
went to Stingray City. Deb, Ed, Eric and Patrick went in the morning
while we watched Abbey. Then we went in the afternoon. We went
snorkeling near some reefs on the way to Stingray City. The water
was kind of rough so Robin didn't stay out very long. Nick took this
when he was snorkeling by himself.
Nick
swimming with the stingrays.
When
Ed went in the morning he fed the stingrays. At one point he had the
squid in his hand and was making the stingray swim around him. But
the stingray didn't want to play his game and bit his hand to make Ed give
up the food.
The
stingray just sort of "flap their wings" and glide through the
water.
When
they're swimming they brush up against your legs. They're very soft.
This
guy (probably a local) was picking up the stingrays so Nick could hold
them.
The
bigger ones are female. The male ones are smaller, but more aggressive.
He
also helped us see their under side.
Look
at the cute face!
Abbey
and Ed at sunset.
Abbey
loves to grab her feet.
Deb
and Ed fed Abbey on the beach at sunset several times.
We
stayed at the Marriott. The pool is just to the left.
The
tide was really high while we were there. A local said that the high
tide and rocky water indicated an upcoming change in the weather.
The
sun actually disappeared before hitting the horizon. There was a
thin layer of clouds just above the horizon that hides the sun as it goes
down.
Deb
got some good video of Abbey in the ocean.
Abbey
loved the water!
Abbey's
favorite thing to do in the water was splash. And she didn't even
care if she splashed herself in the face.
What
a cutie! Nick and Robin had so much fun with Abbey.
Abbey
even got a tan.
Doesn't
Abbey have the cutest legs!
What
a smirk!
One
of Abbey's favorite toys is her alligator xylophone. She loved to
play it for us at the pool.
We
sure look like we're having fun.

Abbey
loved to play with Nick's face.
Aren't
they cute!?
In
the courtyard at the Marriott there was a little pond with a waterfall
where turtles love to hang out.
Look
at those cheeks!
This
is the exact beach where Deb and Ed got engaged three years ago.

Deb
and Abbey at the pool on the day we left. (Deb, isn't there a
picture similar to this of you and mom? It's the hat that makes you
look like her.)
Gotta
wear my shades.
Looks
like Abbey is almost ready for her own seat.
This

us made the trip in one mental piece?
